On November 14, 2023, a modification of the Foreigner Law, Decreto Legislativo 1582, was published introducing a resident visa for digital nomads, remote workers and freelancers in Peru for the first time.
This new Digital Nomad Visa is supposed to allow foreigners, who work independently or employed for a company outside Peru using digital communication technologies and systems, to apply for and get a resident visa in Peru.
The Digital Nomad Visa won't allow foreigners to work for a Peruvian company in Peru or to have any income in Peru. The income must be generated abroad while living in Peru.
As other Peruvian resident visas, the Digital Nomad Visa most probably will as well be valid for up to one year and then can be extended.
Since the publication of the new Foreigner Law in November 2023, the excitement surrounding the Digital Nomad Visa is huge. But unfortunately, to make the Digital Nomad Visa available, it must be included in the corresponding Migraciones administrative regulations, called TUPA, which for all Migraciones procedures include details of the application process, required documents and specific eligibility criteria.
When in August 2024 - nine months after the publication of the new Foreigner Law and the introduction of the Digital Nomad Visa - a new Migraciones TUPA was published, hopes were high that the Digital Nomad Visa is finally included and soon available. But no. The new TUPA doesn't mention the Digital Nomad Visa at all, thus it still isn't available. It seems that the Peruvian government is still working on defining the regulations, required documents and criteria to be met for the Digital Nomad Visa.
To date, March 2025, there has been no news. So, we can only continue to wait and hope for any official information.
