The Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) is an institution of the Peruvian Government in charge of the national security and defense policy of the country on land, air and sea. It participates in the national development, humanitarian operations and disaster risk management.

It exercises command over the Peruvian Armed Forces composed of the Army (Ejercito), the Navy (Marina de Guerra) and the Air Force (Fuerza Aerea).

It's as well in charge of Instituto Geográfico Nacional (National Geographic Institute), the Escuela Nacional de Marina Mercante (National School of Merchant Marine),the Agencia Espacial del Perú (Peruvian Space Agency), the Agencia de Compras de las Fuerzas Armadas (Armed Forces Purchasing Agency), the Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil(National Civil Defense Institute), the Servicios Industriales de la Marina (Industrial Services of the Marine) and the Fábrica de Armas y Municiones del Ejército (Arms and Ammunition Factory of the Army)..
