Cheese surely won’t come to mind when thinking about Peru. But this is set to change. In August 2023, the first Peruvian Cheese Salon takes place in Lima, introducing the public to the wide variety of Peruvian cheeses.

Organized by the Peruvian Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation and the Ecumenical Center for Promotion and Social Action (Cedepas-Norte), the sales exhibition aims at presenting and promoting the wide variety of cheeses produced in Peru, which includes traditional cheeses made from cow, sheep and goat milk but also cheeses with a Peruvian touch, for example, fused with quinoa, Peruvian chilis, Peruvian herbs, olives, nuts, and other goodies.

The Salón de Queso Peruano features cheesemakers from different Peruvian regions, including Cajamarca, Puno, Junín, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Áncash, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Moquegua, Amazonas, Cusco, Lima, La Libertad, Piura, Pasco and San Martin, who are happy to share their love for cheese making and their cheese knowledge with visitors. Tastings of the approx. 200 different cheeses and other dairy products are, of course, included and purchases of presented products are welcome.

Enjoy!
