Ice skating in Lima? Yes! Since July 2012 Lima has another attraction for kids, teens and young at heart adults: Iceland Park. Located in the district of Jesus Maria just next to Minimundo, the 500 square meter ice skating rink might feel small for spoiled Northerners, but actually it's one of the biggest in whole Latin America and the only one in Peru. Fun guaranteed!
The staff at Iceland Park is very friendly, helpful and attentive. So even if you or your kids never ice skated before, no problem. As only a certain amount of people are allowed to be on the ice at a time, one of the instructors is always around either helping with the first steps on the ice, explaining techniques or giving a hand if necessary.
Iceland Park is open year round even in summer. The rental of the ice skates (up to US size 13) and helmets is included in the entrance fee. Lockers are available to store everything you won't need on the ice. For security and safety reasons children have to be 7 years of age or older (in case of doubt better have an ID of your child on you to proof the age).
Iceland Park as well offers classes for beginners, advanced skaters and professionals.
Just one side note: The average (!) waiting time from buying your ticket at the entrance until entering the ice skating rink is around 40 minutes. On the weekend it gets crowded at Iceland Park and waiting times of an hour or even more are not uncommon. Therefore we highly recommend visiting the ice skate rink either early on Saturday or Sunday or best during the week.
