Celebrate with Peru its famous tuber

On the 30th of May is National Potato Day; a time to celebrate one of the most important food crops in the world originating in Peru.

Throughout this week countless restaurants around Lima pay homage to the famous root vegetable by offering special menus and drinks using the great variety of native Peruvian potatoes.

Yesterday the restaurants Social (the Hilton Hotel's restaurant), Papachos, Amaz, Los Babiche and Ache at the gastronomic corner on Av. La Paz in Miraflores promoted their activities for National Potato Day with showcasing different native Peruvian potatoes and offering delicious nibbles made of the tuber to passers-by.

Celebrations also include smaller and bigger expositions, parades and festivals. The 5th Festival of the Native Potato (V Festival de la Papa Nativa 2014) at Lima's Parque de la Exposicion is held from Friday 30th of May until Sunday 1st of June. The festival brings together potato growers from the Andean highlands, restaurants including well knows chefs, culinary schools and shops all contributing to spread and promote the Peruvian culinary heritage. The three days gastronomic festival includes a native potato market, a potato-based food and beverage contests and lots of great Peruvian dishes made with the famous tuber.
