LimaEasy's Editors Corner

We really don't like the word "Blog" but we have to admit that the Editors Corner is the LimaEasy Blog. Things change, new content gets published, an article doesn't seem to fit into any of our categories or we as the editors of LimaEasy would like to air our opinions (and you are welcome to comment on them) - This is the place you'll find all that...

Peru's Largest Gastronomic Festival

South America's biggest gastronomic fair, Mistura, kicks off in less than 2 months here in Lima expecting half a million visitors. Under this year's motto "Diversity and Nutrition" Mistura brings together small farmers, producers, food sellers, chefs, bakers, confectioners, restaurants, food enthusiasts, Limeños and visitors from all over the world for the country's biggest gastronomic folk festival. Next to 10 days full of Peruvian flavors and colors visitors can also expect having a good time with cultural performances such as typical Peruvian dances and live music, exhibitions, workshops and much more.

As in previous years the Gran Mercardo, the grand market, is the heart of the 7th edition of this most important food festival where a great variety of typical Peruvian produce from the country's different regions will be offered. This year's novelty: the market will be "upgraded" with its own restaurant. So visitors not only can buy the fruits and veggies, but also taste dishes made with them.

There as well won't be any big changes with structuring the participating restaurants and food stalls into different culinary worlds such as food from the Amazon, Andes, northern and southern Peru, ceviche, anticuchos, chifa, sandwiches, Creole, beverages and bars.

New this year: the exhibition of the agricultural terraces used by farmers in the Andean highlands for centuries.

Tickets for Mistura 2014 are available at Teleticket in Wong and Metro supermarkets. For the first time it's also possible to reserve tickets online on the Teleticket website. This allows foreigners to buy tickets in advance, pay with their credit card and pick them up at a Teleticket booth once in Lima.
