LimaEasy's Editors Corner

We really don't like the word "Blog" but we have to admit that the Editors Corner is the LimaEasy Blog. Things change, new content gets published, an article doesn't seem to fit into any of our categories or we as the editors of LimaEasy would like to air our opinions (and you are welcome to comment on them) - This is the place you'll find all that...

Once a Year Caral is beautifully lit up

Once a year Caral, considered at least for the moment the oldest urban center in the Americas and one of the oldest civilizations of the world, is beautifully lit up. Located 200 km north of Lima Caral was built by the Norte Chico civilization about 5000 years ago and accommodated more than 3000 people.

Although Caral was already discovered over 100 years ago, it was never assessed as important. No gold, no ceramics or other archaeological treasures were found. Only in 1996 excavation started, revealing the age and the importance of Caral. The Sacred City of Caral - Supe was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2009. For several years now the complex is open for tourists and really worth a visit.

By the way the archaeological complex is as many other important sites perpetuated on the Peruvian currency. On the back of the S/. 200 banknote you find a characteristic picture of the ancient complex.
